Contest ideas?
As you may have noticed, folks, I’m not all the way back to non-vacation mode yet. Italy was just so very nice. And things here had gotten so very stressful. Anyway, real life has started again, whether I wanted it to or not. So blog I shall.
And I’m hoping to get some ideas from you. I’ve got a pair of extra tickets to Tru Grace: Holiday Memoirs at Central Square Theater. I’d like to give them away on my boston.com blog. Ideally, I’d like to run some kind of contest — but what kind? I can’t do holiday recipes, because you really need to taste those. I’ve already requested good gift ideas, so no go there, either. What would be a fun contest — something akin to the Clerihew contest, but holiday-themed?
I await your creative suggestions!

How about the best recollection of a holiday memory in a very few words- like 50 or less.
Perhaps a holiday recollection Twitter-style, in 140 characters or less…? I think that’d be a fun challenge.
I like the idea of a Twitter-style competition. I want to do something funny … CST is already doing a holiday-memories thing.
Hmm… something with punning on the names of holiday songs? A friend and I had a great go-around about Bob Dylan’s Christmas album… I think he won the day with “Sleigh Lady Sleigh,” though I was kind of proud of “Most Likely Yule Go Your Way And I’ll Go Mine.” Obviously that particular combination can’t sustain a whole contest, but it’s maybe a starting point… something about new holiday songs by famous bands?
I like the song idea- make up new fun lyrics to traditional holiday songs. It reminds me of the Blame it on Christmas album with such holiday favorites as “Schlepp the Halls with Loaves of Hallah” and “The Inexcelsis Polka”. :)
How about the best description of the holiday(as celebrated by the tweeter) and its significance delivered in precisely 140 characters?
How about a virtual Yankee Swap? In my old office, we regifted the worst gifts ever given to us for our Yankee Swap. You could ask your readers to tell you about – or send pictures of – the worst gifts they ever received.
Sort of like that sweater picture you had!
I’d say best parody of a holiday song, either made up yourself or found with the original author cited.
