Today’s column

… is online here. I have to say, I was rather proud of my answer to the second question.
UPDATE: The magazine’s cover story is about coyotes. Is it just me, or do coyotes look exactly like wolves going, “Duuhh … “?
Also, while you can’t buy the appearance of a “strong, proud, generous person with a sense of humor and perspective” at Sephora, you can buy Smashbox Color Correcting Primer, which is the best foundation primer I’ve ever used — I generally wear it alone, not with foundation, and it gives a beautiful evenness without a made-up look. It doesn’t have SPF, mind you, so you have to wear sunscreen underneath.

That particular coyote looks a little cross-eyed. I don’t think they all look quite that goofy.
I had the recycling problem at work. I tried a few times (politely, clearly, gently) to correct the behavior before deciding that it was deliberate. Waxed milk cartons, Saran wrap, clippings from office plants, and occasionally just plain garbage. I gave up.
I love that primer. I use it all the time.
That there are (according to the cover article) people out there deliberately feeding coyotes made me want to bang my head against a wall.
I should get some of that green primer to tone down the florid redness of my complexion.
We’ve decided that if Dexter (the smart cat of the bunch) ever got outside and met a coyote, he’d be irritated that it woke him up from his nap.
Dexter: SLEEPING!
Coyote: Um, OK. Eating you.
I live on Aquidneck Island, in prime coyote territory — we see them often at dusk — and while it’s cool to have wildlife so close to us (there are also wild turkeys who turn up in the yard, or even in the garage if you’re not careful), it’s worrisome that there is so little understanding of how to interact with them wisely.
Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the article, which I’ve already passed on to a number of friends.
And kudos on your response to the second question. I love that you encourage people to engage with their better selves. That’s the heart of etiquette, though so often a struggle!
Yeah, I loved your answer to the baby shower question, and Rubiatonta put it beautifully. It is always a little depressing to see how frequently questions that are ostensibly about etiquette are really asking “how can I self-righteously justify being unkind to someone else?”
MelissaJane, you put it exactly right! That always annoys me.
